GOMUR MECANIZADOS EXPANDS ITS CAPACITY WITH THE ACQUISITION OF A LARGE PARALLEL LATHE

03 October, 2024

The Cantabrian company Gomur Mecanizados has recently acquired a Geminis GHT11 G4 – 3500x8000 parallel lathe, with the aim of strengthening its horizontal turning capacity and expanding its machining services. This advanced lathe will enable the company to take on large-scale projects, positioning itself as a leader in the demanding machining sector.

A qualitative leap in capacity

With this new lathe, Gomur Mecanizados now boasts horizontal turning capabilities with a maximum diameter of 3,500 mm, a distance between centres of 8,000 mm, and a maximum weight of 35 tonnes. These specifications place the company in a strong position to fulfil orders for large parts, such as shafts, rollers, and drums, which require a high level of precision and quality finishes.

Technical specifications of the Geminis GHT11 G4 lathe

The Geminis GHT11 G4 parallel lathe, which will be operational from January 2025, is characterised by its advanced technical capabilities, including:

  • Maximum diameter over the bed: 3,500 mm.
  • Maximum diameter over the carriage: 3,050 mm.
  • Distance between centres: 8,000 mm.
  • Maximum part weight: 35 tonnes.
  • Numerical control: Fagor 8065-T.
  • 6-jaw chuck with a diameter of 2,500 mm.
  • Installed power: 150 kW.

These specifications enable Gomur Mecanizados to undertake large-scale work with the precision required by sectors such as naval, hydroelectric, wind, cement, and capital goods, where the company already has a notable presence.

Expansion into large-scale part machining

Gomur Mecanizados' new investment is aimed at strengthening its ability to compete in the large part machining segment, a market that demands precision and exacting finishes. This lathe will allow the company to expand its service offerings, handling more complex and larger projects.

The company, based near the port of Santander, has extensive experience in machining medium and large parts, using horizontal and vertical lathes, milling machines, and boring machines to work with cast, forged, oxy-cut, and welded parts. Its range of services covers highly technical and demanding sectors such as the naval, hydroelectric, and wind industries, among others.

Part of the Gomur Group

Gomur Mecanizados is part of the Gomur Group, which employs over 300 professionals specialising in various industrial areas. Through its companies, the group offers comprehensive solutions in mechanical design and engineering, mechanical-welded construction and assemblies, large machining, repairs, heat exchangers and pressure vessels, automation, robotics, industrial
