INDECOBER STRENGTHENS ITS PRESENCE IN ELECTRIC VEHICLE PARTS MACHINING

10 March, 2025

Basque company Indecober has taken a key step in its transition towards electric mobility with the addition of three new machining lines at its Berriz plant. With an investment of over €2 million, the company is responding to increased demand in this segment, with plans to start series production within the year.

With 30 years of experience in automotive component machining, Indecober has been undergoing a strategic transformation since 2023. The industry's evolution and strict emissions regulations for 2030-2035 have led the company to specialize in the production of chassis parts for electric vehicles.

"The regulatory shift has pushed manufacturers to focus almost entirely on electric vehicles, significantly reducing traditional components and eliminating systems such as exhaust and connection mechanisms. This forced us to rethink our direction," explains Iván Barriobero, CEO of Indecober.

In this process, the company has collaborated with consultancy firm Human Digitals to develop its new strategy. According to Aitor Íñiguez de Heredia, CEO of Human Digitals, the challenge was to equip Indecober with greater adaptability in a more dynamic market, with digitalization and automation as key pillars.

The three new machining lines at Berriz are fully automated and incorporate advanced technologies such as M2M, artificial vision, data capture, and dual-spindle CNC machining centers. These upgrades will enhance Indecober’s competitiveness in key markets, particularly in Europe and the U.S.

Indecober’s efforts to adapt to industry demands have earned it recognition as an innovative and technological SME. The company has also received support from institutions such as Beaz, Spri, and the Basque Government.

"Collaboration with organizations like AIQ and AFM Cluster, along with access to public innovation grants, is essential for an industrial SME like ours to manage the high investment costs required for these projects," says Barriobero.

Through this transformation, Indecober is not only securing its future in the sector but also positioning itself as a key player in machining components for the new era of electric vehicles.
