MARINA GROUP UPDATES EQUIPMENT TO INTERNALISE MACHINING PROCESSES

28 February, 2022

Marina Group continues to modernise its equipment fleet with new machinery that will enable it bring certain machining processes in-house. This family business, the control of which was recently handed down a generation, has also reinforced its sales department activities.

The Marina Group, comprising Metalúrgica Marina, Ara Transferencias Térmicas and Herluce, is continuing to expand its machinery fleet in order to gain efficiency and boost profitability. It recently acquired a machining centre that improves the speed and performance of its previous equipment and, thanks to this, will be able to bring part of its processes in-house, mainly milling, which it used to outsource to subcontractors.

Moreover, managing director Gorka Marina reports that the company is considering incorporating, over the course of the coming year, another high-performance machine for milling and machining, capable of working with larger-sized pieces than current capacity (almost up to 2 metres in diameter).

The reins of control in this family group, which in recent months has intensified work for companies such as Navantia and Plycem USA and continues to make progress in R&D projects with centres such as CFAA or Tecnalia, have recently been handed down a generation and the headcount currently stands at approximately 70 staff. According to Marina, having completing the handover “we expect to keep a stable headcount for the coming years, provided the workload remains”.

In this regard, the Marina Group is reinforcing the actions of the sales department (with a stand at the subcontracting fair at the BEC for the first time in October, and plans to attend the upcoming edition of MetalMadrid), making an unequivocal commitment to its business of high pressure machining, assembly and reconstruction of mechanical elements, subsets, engineering and turnkey equipment.
